Vale de Milho Quinta Resort & Spa - Algarve, Portugal | Hotel Review

Overview

Reviewer: Solo vlogger traveling with Alex Property: Valle de la Verache Quinta Resort & Spa (five-star) Location: Algarve, Portugal — just outside Carvoeiro, roughly between Albufeira and Lagos, near Portimão; slightly inland from the coastline Stay: One night, half-board (dinner + breakfast), standard room Verdict: Pleasant stay overall — rates it a personal 4-star despite five-star facilities; would not return primarily due to disappointing dinner

The Room

Layout & Bedroom

  • Good size with a very large, comfortable bed (possibly two singles pushed together)
  • Bedside tables with lamps
  • Views over the countryside — olive trees visible from the window
  • Tucked-away position opposite the spa and behind the tennis courts; quiet and private

Work & Leisure Area

  • Workstation and good-sized TV
  • Espresso machine
  • Earl Grey and kettle with cups
  • Minibar with beer
  • Complimentary bottled water with glassware
  • Small seating area

Storage

  • Large wardrobes (two total)
  • Drawers for smaller items
  • Iron and ironing board in second wardrobe
  • Safe (small — likely won't fit a laptop)
  • Only six hangers initially; may need to request more

Bathroom

  • Clean but not particularly modern
  • Marble-effect sink (large)
  • Castelbel toiletries (hand wash, body wash — orange labina range)
  • Dental kits, toothpaste, shower cap
  • Hairdryer and magnifying mirror
  • Hot shower both evenings and mornings

Robes: Provided Overall room feel: Warm, inviting — especially with natural light coming through

Pools

  • Main large pool plus a smaller adjacent pool
  • Surrounded by olive trees and tall conifers
  • Covered veranda area for outdoor dining/breakfast in warmer months

  • Lovely walking paths between buildings

Spa

  • Located adjacent to the reviewer's room
  • Not personally used during this stay — noted as likely excellent based on the resort's overall quality

Dining & Drinks

Olive Bar

  • Cozy downstairs bar near reception with sofas and TV
  • Sangria: Highly recommended — very good quality; excellent service from the waiter
  • Breads and olives also enjoyed here

Olive Tree Restaurant (Half-Board Dinner)

Course Dish Verdict
Starter Seared tuna Didn't enjoy it
Starter (Alex) Bruschetta Not quite bruschetta
Main Salmon on risotto with vegetables Salmon cooked beautifully; risotto and vegetables lacked flavor — flat overall
Main (Alex) Steak (ordered medium) Arrived rare
Dessert Chocolate brownie, chocolate ice cream, chocolate drizzle, strawberries Really good — saved the meal
Dessert (Alex) Fresh fruit salad with sorbet Fruit was squished into a jug — presentation odd

Overall dinner verdict: Mixed and underwhelming — the main disappointment of the stay

Breakfast Buffet

  • Ham, cheeses, cooked breakfast selection
  • Omelette station
  • Croissants, fresh fruit (nicely chopped small), overnight oats
  • Sparkling wine included
  • Coffee machines — Americano recommended; milk-based coffee was a minor letdown
  • Overall breakfast verdict: Really good; significantly better than dinner

Sleep Quality

Both guests slept extremely well. Mattress is very firm but delivered an excellent night's rest — noted as a surprise given the initial feel.
